Tanzanite
2.9ct

A 2.9ct cushion-cut tanzanite set within a structured octagonal frame. An architecturalsetting for a stone with depth.

This cushion-cut tanzanite comes from the Merelani Hills of northern Tanzania, the only known source of this extraordinary gemstone. Formed over hundreds of millions of years under unique geological conditions, its captivating blue-violet colour is created by trace amounts of vanadium within the crystal. As is standard practice for most tanzanites, the gemstone has been gently heated to reveal its signature blue and violet hues. It displays a distinctive dichroic nature, with the colour subtly shifting between blue and violet as it catches the light.

Geologists estimate that the known tanzanite deposit may become depleted within the next 10–15 years, making fine tanzanites from this unique locality increasingly significant.
This gemstone was chosen for its size, vivid saturation, excellent clarity and of course rarity. Its beautifully proportioned cushion cut reveals depth and allows its shifting shades of blue and violet to be appreciated from every angle.

Personally sourced during my most recent trip to Tanzania, it represents one of the finest examples of the country's most iconic gemstone. The elevated gallery setting was designed to maximise the light entering the gemstone, allowing
its unique optical character to take centre stage.
